Super Nintendo non oem reproduction, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4 Turtles in Time video game cartridge.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time is a critically acclaimed 1992 side-scrolling beat 'em up game developed and published by Konami for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Based primarily on the 1987 TMNT animated series, it is a home console port of the popular 1991 arcade game. It is widely considered one of the greatest games of the 16-bit era and one of the finest co-op brawlers ever made.

The Story Plot

The game begins in New York City where Krang suddenly steals the Statue of Liberty. As Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo set out to recover it, they infiltrate the Technodrome. However, Shredder traps them inside a time warp, forcing the Turtles to battle Foot Soldiers across various historical eras—ranging from prehistoric times and the Wild West to futuristic space stations—in order to make their way back home and defeat Shredder once and for all.

Gameplay & Features

  • 1-2 Player Co-op: Supports solo play or two-player simultaneous action.
  • Expressive Combat: Features multi-directional movement, run mechanics, jumps, and special slide attacks.
  • Screen Throw Mechanic: Capitalizes on the SNES hardware to let players grab Foot Soldiers and literally toss them face-first "at the screen".
  • Versus & Time Trial Modes: Exclusive additions to the SNES cartridge that were not present in the arcade original.
  • Memorable Sound & Visuals: Packed with highly vibrant pixel art, expressive slapstick hurt animations, and an upbeat, memorable cartoon-style soundtrack.

SNES Specific Differences

While the arcade original allowed for 4-player gameplay, the SNES port added meaningful content that many enthusiasts argue makes it the superior version:

  • Includes a brand new Technodrome stage midway through the game.
  • Replaces and alters certain boss fights (e.g., adding Slash, the Rat King, and Super Shredder as the final encounter).
  • Employs the Super Nintendo's Mode 7 graphics scaling for the bonus surf stages and the screen-throwing mechanics.
