Tiny Toon Adventures: Scary Dreams (originally released in Europe as Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Bad Dream) is a 2D side-scrolling beat 'em up video game developed by the acclaimed studio Treasure and published for the Game Boy Advance (GBA).
Story Premise
The main antagonist, Montana Max, uses a "dream ray" to hijack Buster Bunny’s subconscious, twisting his dreams into terrible nightmares. Even worse, Buster's friends get trapped in the dream beam alongside him. Buster must fight his way through his own nightmares to rescue his friends and find a path back to Acme Acres.
Gameplay & Mechanics
- Combat Style: It is a highly technical, rhythm-based brawler. Buster can punch, uppercut, execute multi-hit combos, use silly weapons, and perform unique heavy moves like slamming enemies with a shopping cart or using a jackhammer.
- Partner System: Before starting a level, you select a "helper" character from the Tiny Toons roster (including Babs, Plucky, Hamton, Sneezer, Shirley, Fifi, and Dizzy). Tapping the R trigger summons them briefly to execute a unique special attack or ability:
- Babs Bunny: Fires tennis ball projectiles for ranged damage.
- Plucky Duck: Drops heavy anvils from the sky that launch enemies into the air, making him highly effective.
- Hamton J. Pig: Drops sandwiches and fruit to heal Buster.
- Shirley the Loon: Freezes all on-screen enemies.
- Structure: Players navigate side-scrolling sections, defeating all on-screen enemies before moving forward, culminating in an end-of-stage boss battle. The game features unlimited continues but utilizes a traditional password system for saving progress.
