Super Nintendo non oem reproduction, Spider-Man Venom Maximum Carnage video game cartridge.

Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage is a 1994 side-scrolling beat 'em up video game developed by Software Creations and published under Acclaim Entertainment's LJN subsidiary for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It is celebrated as one of the first video games to directly adapt a major comic book crossover event—Marvel's 1993 14-part Maximum Carnage storyline.

Story and Premise

The plot opens as the completely insane serial killer Cletus Kasady, infected by an offspring of the Venom symbiote, breaks out of a mental institution as Carnage. He forms a deadly alliance with a gang of misfits—including Shriek, Doppelganger, Demogoblin, and Carrion—to unleash total mayhem and paint New York City red. The threat is so immense that Spider-Man is forced to put aside his differences and form an uneasy alliance with his sinister arch-nemesis, Venom, to stop the rampage.\

Gameplay Features

  • Playable Characters: Players start the game as Spider-Man but can choose to play as Venom during specific levels, which splits the narrative into alternate pathways.
  • Combat & Web Mechanics: Standard brawling (punching, jump-kicking) is enhanced by unique web abilities. Spider-Man and Venom can pull enemies close, create defensive web shields, and web-swing across specific climbing areas.
  • Marvel Hero Cameos: While the game is strictly single-player, you can collect hidden items to summon AI striker allies. These include Captain America, Black Cat, Iron Fist, Cloak and Dagger, Deathlok, Morbius, and Firestar to clear the screen.
  • Comic-Style Presentation: Story progression is uniquely handled through cutscenes featuring stylized, animated comic panels lifted directly from the original artwork.

      SNES Technical Details & Collectibility

  • Soundtrack: The game features a prominent digital soundtrack composed by the comedy rock band Green Jellÿ. The SNES sound chip leverages a cleaner, more orchestral approximation of instruments compared to its Sega Genesis counterpart.
  • Brutal Difficulty: The game is widely known in the retro community for its punishing difficulty, featuring overpowered bosses, no password or save systems, and a strict limit on continues.
