Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge is a 1991 action-platformer for the Game Boy, developed by Konami. It is a direct sequel to Castlevania: The Adventure, significantly improving on its predecessor with faster gameplay and the reintroduction of iconic sub-weapons. 

Plot and Setting

Set 15 years after the first Game Boy title, the vampire hunter Christopher Belmont must return to action after Dracula kidnaps his son, Soleiyu. Dracula uses Soleiyu's sacred power to transform him into a demon and regain human form. Christopher must storm four themed castles—Crystal, Cloud, Plant, and Rock—to save his son and Transylvania. 

Gameplay Features

• Nonlinear Level Selection: Similar to the Mega Man series, players can choose to tackle the first four castles in any order. Once these are cleared, Dracula's Castle appears for the final linear stages.
• Expanded Arsenal: Unlike the previous handheld entry, this game includes classic sub-weapons. In the North American version, these are the Axe and Holy Water, while the Japanese and European versions use the Cross/Boomerang in place of the Axe.
• Whip Upgrades: The iconic "Vampire Killer" whip can be upgraded twice via orbs found in candles. The first upgrade increases its length, and the second allows it to shoot flaming projectiles.
• Improved Mechanics: The game introduced a password system using symbols for saving progress and addressed the "sluggish" movement and control issues of the first game.
